Josie has experience working with clients on a wide range of mental health and behavioral issues, however has a special interest in conditions associated with traumatic experiences. Trauma does not always mean PTSD. It can often be subtle and could be the core issue underlying other emotional problems. EMDR activates the brain’s natural healing abilities to reprocess past experiences that may be deeply rooted in the client’s current issues. EMDR is unique as it allows clients to resolve their emotional issues without having to “talk” through all the details. Many clients describe the EMDR experience as a profound and rapid solution that helps them to improve their symptoms and positive outlook on their life.
Josie's favorite quote says “an arrow cannot be shot forward until it is pulled back”. It teaches us that perspective is so powerful which may cause you to focus on a setback rather than what you’re being set up for. Upon building my own level of cognitive awareness to work in this field, I have realized that I have always wanted to help others who might not be able to see their own full potential to living an authentic life yet. I have been practicing mental health counseling over over 10 years and find therapy a truly useful tool for anyone who is struggling, feeling stuck, or not sure what to do to move forward.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Addictions Professional with international recognition, I bring an array of experience and modalities when working with clients. I am transparent, very practical, and integrative in my approach. I completed my Master’s Degree in Mental Health and Wellness and my Bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology both at New York University.
My main goal is to help clients learn to love themselves and work through stressors or barriers that impact daily life. I have found that taking a holistic approach to therapy helps a great majority of clients focus on healing mind and body. I have worked in many different arenas that include substance abuse, couples and families, crisis management, postpartum clients, women’s issues, as well as the LGBTQ community.
A specialty that I work with is with women who are postpartum. Not enough support is given to women during and after pregnancy and often confusing feelings can be overlooked or misdiagnosed. If you find yourself getting frustrated, having confusing and scary thoughts, feeling resentful, or even depressed, know that I will help you navigate these feelings.
I also have experience with couples where I have created an environment that you can feel safe in expressing your deepest feelings and fears. I tailor my approach working with couples to focus on addressing and working through your specific needs that is most conducive for your goals.
